Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Cloak & Docket collects, why, and the choices you have. Cloak & Docket ("we," "us") is a subscription service that gathers public government documents, links each source document, and provides AI-written summaries.
Information we collect
- Account information you give us: your name, email address, organization, buyer type, and the topics and states you choose to follow.
- Billing information when you subscribe, processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
- Usage information: pages viewed, records opened, searches, and follows, so we can improve the product and surface what matters.
- Device and log information: IP address, browser type, and similar technical data collected automatically.
- Cookies and similar technologies, to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and measure usage.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. The government documents in the product are public records. Your account and usage data are used to run and improve the service, not sold to third parties.
How we use your information
- To provide the service: build your feed, deliver the alerts and emails you ask for, and manage your subscription.
- To improve the product by understanding, in aggregate, which sources and topics matter.
- To communicate with you, including marketing emails you can unsubscribe from at any time.
- To comply with the law and protect the service.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers who help us operate Cloak & Docket, under contract, including Stripe for payments, Twilio for text-message delivery, MailerLite for email delivery, and our analytics provider for usage measurement. We may disclose information if required by law. We do not sell your data.
Email and your choices
Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. Service emails tied to your subscription, such as receipts and security notices, may still be sent. To update your preferences or ask us to delete your account, email hello@cloakanddocket.com.
Text message (SMS) alerts
If you choose to receive text alerts, we collect the mobile phone number you provide and your consent solely to send you the SMS notifications you opt into — alerts about the specific bills, dockets, and agencies you follow. Providing a mobile number is optional and is never required to use Cloak & Docket.
We do not sell or share your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in information with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Your number is shared only with our SMS delivery provider, Twilio, strictly to transmit the messages you requested.
Message frequency varies based on the items you follow and their activity. Message and data rates may apply. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any text, or by turning off text alerts in your account settings; reply HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not affect your subscription or the emails tied to it.
Data retention and security
We keep your account data while your account is active and as needed for legal and accounting purposes, then delete or anonymize it. We use reasonable safeguards to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, or to opt out of certain processing. Contact hello@cloakanddocket.com and we will respond as required by law.
Children
The service is for professional use and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
We may update this policy. We will post the new date at the top, and for material changes we will notify you.
